Recommended intervals by haircut
| Cut | Recommended interval | Why? |
|---|---|---|
| Skin fade, high fade | 2 weeks | A near-zero blend shadows within days |
| Mid / low fade, taper | 2–3 weeks | The blend and neckline lose their sharpness |
| Classic short cut, crew cut | 3–4 weeks | Above the ears and the nape grow out fast |
| Medium length (quiff, pompadour, side part) | 4–6 weeks | Shape and volume start to fall apart |
| Long hair | 6–10 weeks | Trimming the ends prevents breakage |
| Beard shaping | 2–3 weeks | Cheek and neck lines disappear |
How fast does hair grow?
Hair grows about 1–1.5 cm per month. One centimetre on top is barely noticeable, but on a fade that starts at 1–2 mm on the sides the same growth changes the whole blend. That is why short cuts need far more frequent upkeep than long hair.
I’m growing my hair out. Should I still get it cut?
Yes. Small clean-ups every 8–10 weeks (nape, above the ears and ends) stop the in-between phase from looking messy and remove split ends. Tell your barber you are growing it; they will keep the shape without touching the length on top.
Keeping the look between cuts
- Neck and sideburn clean-up: with fades, a quick line-up in between can stretch the time to a full cut.
- The right product: matte wax, clay or pomade holds the shape; ask your barber what suits your hair type.
- Regular bookings: booking the next appointment as you leave is the easiest way to keep the interval steady.
Before an important day
For a wedding, engagement or photo shoot, getting your cut 2–4 days before gives the most natural result: the lines are still sharp but the “freshly cut” edge has softened.
